It’s no secret to devoted huile fans that the golden-coloured Camellia oil has been the deeply ingrained anti-aging beauty secret revered by the geishas of Kyoto for their dazzling and dramatic aesthetic.
Camellia oil is obtained from the seed of Camellia japonica Linne, which is a tree highly valued in ancient Japan. For more than 300 years, the Japanese geishas have remained faithful to the pristine oil and used it religiously to keep their skin and hair healthy and beautiful. Some of the most beautiful women in Chinese history, like Xiang Fei, believed Camellia Seed Oil was the secret to keeping their skin beautiful and moist. Highly stable oil, the vitamin rich oil contains Vitamins A, B, C, E, and loads of polyphenol, which safeguard your skin from the damaging effects of UV/environmental exposure and free radicals.
Camellia is a highly penetrative oil. It is very high in Oleic acid (almost 82% of its fatty acid compositions) and other essential fatty acids. Its Oleic acid composition is the highest among all natural oils, like Olive. Studies have proven that these EFAs are excellent emollients and pretty awesome agents for the retention and enhancement of skin moisture. As a result, Camellia oil can be easily and effectively absorbed into the skin to work in synergy with the skin's own natural system to nourish cell membranes, replenish skin lipids and accelerate skin rejuvenation.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been excited over a lip balm. But, Julie Hewett – a film make up artist who's also member of Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for her artistry skills – remedied that and has delivered to us what might be the darn perfect moisture stick juicy enough to lure you into the high-end balm camp. Julie takes from the centuries-old tradition of Camellia and gives us a non-waxy balm in a lipstick form packaged in a travel appropriate tube ($16).
From the umpteen balms out there to pick from, why this one?
The richly emollient balm – full of Camellia, Rosehip, and Grapeseed oils - is actually colourless and blended with just a teensiest amount of Orange oil, though not enough to scent it for a sniff. When applied to the skin, it spreads easy, brings an incredible moisture retaining power, and actually stayed put through a power nap. Don't snicker; it’s a peculiar worry of mine as most of my balms actually don’t do the last one.
The non-tacky balm is luxuriously indulgent; a buttery formula that instantly melts when slid onto the lips. You’ll like the fuss-free application from the spiffy tube as the treatment works well as a base for lip colour. Surely a staple to add to your list of make-up bag must have’s. Larger sized pots are also available in this natural shade, rose and ruby.
This is the one you’ll want to keep by the bedside to serve your lips well.
