This may come as a shock to some of you, but I do run out of oils – body, hair, and face. No seriously, it’s true! And, I run out of cash for the luxury ones, too.
But, no this isn’t a plug for Trader Joe’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil ($5.99) that I swear to buy when I desperately need my huile fix. Actually, I was referred to this gem of a moisturizer by a celebrity masseuse who works on the knotted A-list Hollywood types at the famed holistic sanctuary Ona Spa in West Hollywood where besties Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore frequent.
I had the privilege of losing my senses for two gloriously blissful hours at Ona last week. During the comfort of the serene Nirvana massage, I noticed the slip of the oil was different than any other oil I’ve seen used in previous treatments. I couldn't resist asking, so I did..."what it's your blend?"
What surprised me wasn’t the name, but the fact that this 9-year veteran has been using this cold-pressed, filtered oil religiously as a testament to its slip, which was ideal for the Swedish/Deep combo. The masseuse also mentioned she is able to customize the oil for aromatherapeutic benefits on the spot. And, she didn’t mind buying up fresh, new jars on a bi-weekly basis to avoid using the gallon-sized varieties, which actually can go rancid. The best part? Her clients - celeb, non-celeb, and well...one beauty oil blogger - all loved their impeccably soft skin after her lavish sessions.
I know you'll want to try this if:
- You’re still hesitant about spending a wad on a scented or luxury one. For the uninitiated, you can’t go wrong with this semi-viscous oil at a bargain price. It seeps into skin to nourish with Vitamins E and K and helps treat any one of those modern skin maladies that can plague you any time of the year.
- Or, you want healthy growth of hair with that indisputable shine you see in commercials. Coconut Oil does double duty as it has a high affinity for hair proteins, is able to penetrate inside the hair shaft and is effective in reducing the protein loss for damaged and undamaged hair.
- Or, you still haven’t found that signature scent in a body oil on this blog being the brilliant critic that you are. Coconut Oil is a perfect carrier for when you want to create that perfect Huile de You…perhaps from Clove, Honeysuckle or Saffron.

A great oil to use for cooking and beauty! I use it for my DIY deodorant & toothpaste recipes. Haven't had a cavity in years!
Great tip, Marnie.
So funny! I use this very item more for beauty than for cooking. It's a great makeup remover/face wash. I've slathered it on before bed -- with pjs that I don't mind "oiling up". And I even used it as a light moisturizer for a healing tattoo (once the scabbing healed).
Gina, I love these tips!
I love this stuff as a moisturizer! I have yet to put it in my hair or on my face, but luckily I just bought a jar and am going to give it a try tonight. I, for the last month have sworn by sweet almond oil as a facial cleanser... Let's see who takes the cake.
So glad you love it Ashley! Let me know how you like it as a hair treatment!
