If you’re going to create a luxury face oil and I mean one that justifies its price tag with a savvy take on essences, it helps to have someone behind the brand who knows where to source the most decadent of ingredients. Angela Shore, founder of Jiva Apoha, is just that dame of exotic interpretation.
And, that’s because she sources her Roses and Jasmines from India. I wrote about why this matters back here. Suffice to say, when you’ve got an Indian blogger who can sniff out the indulgent…no, intelligent nuances of attar claiming to have been imported from afar, you better know I’ll ask to share the name of the village and the manufacturer’s surname to be sure the brand is extending an honest and even gracefully believability to the blend.
Jiva Apoha does.
Sundara (Beauty) Face Oil ($105) is a judicious blend of Grapeseed and Jojoba oils to keep skin’s optimum moisture balance and oil production in check. Grapeseed is rich in antioxidants, OPCs (otherwise known as oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes) and actually rivals Vitamin C in its potential for evening out your skin tone. Oily skins (much like that on a certain Indian blogger) love it as it can actually help regulate your natural oil production
For the connoisseur of skincare looking to make the leap into a luxury face oil, this is as good as it gets. But, keeping true to Angela’s interpersonal style, the expressive freshness of the scent is an excellent example of how you can blend several essentials that don’t result in an endless blither of sensory stimulation. You don’t want the croon of Rose to ensnare the airy touch of a green Jasmine. You don’t want to wonder about Roman Chamomile’s grassy scent and why it's bending its will to others. What do you want is to have the hushed but sheer flourish coax poetry back into skin.
And, Sundara does.
The simple grace of Rose marries Jasmine in a perfect floral union of sweetness while adds that barely-there tinge of exoticism. Roman Chamomile and Lavender lighten the carrier base and come together in an engaging play with the down to earth flowers. There’s a nice harmonization happening here, but I’ll argue largely because the key essences are authentically from abroad. Slavishly blended to perfection, any luxury face oil should smartly avoid any synthetic manipulation of its 100% natural oils.
And, yes Angela does.
