Tarte Celebutante Dry Oil Shimmer Spray

It’s not about the smoky eye nor the red statement lips. Shimmer is having its moment. And, it's not your 80s chunky clumps of glitter, but a soft sheen of speckled highlights. With summer’s return to metallics, expect to see high shine on eyes, nails and lips. But, the sheerness of mineral pigments can also help you deflect any imperfections on legs. For those bareback dresses and flitty skirts, we like Tarte Celebutante Dry Oil Shimmer Spray ($34).

Billed as a dry oil, some of you may have begrudgingly expected more of a puritanical ingredient than the ubiquitous mineral oil (it’s the main base) especially from eco-friendly Tarte. But, to the brand's credit, a slurry of avocado and apricot oils do bring some much appreciated skin enhancing benefits. Take consolation in the sterolins found in avocado oil can reduce blemishes and relieve damaged skin, in particular damage caused by sun exposure. And, while the inert mineral oil serves more for glide than nourishing, you’ll get a healthy dose of nutritious vitamins from the avocado oil for skin rejuvenation: vitamins A, B1 & B2, D and E (as well as beta-carotene and potassium).

But, apart from generic core, indeed, what a fun oil this is! The sweet summery notes of coconut do bring a zesty scent from the natural parfum used (the coconut is a creamier, warmed accord, not the suntan lotion type). Add the champagne shimmer to your cupid’s bow and along cheekbones. Highlighting and shading takes some proper skill for the face, but no need for practice to spritz the micronized pigments over legs, which give you a delicate luminosity doesn't rub off. We actually mixed a few drops into nearly empty gloss pot and created a dusky pink glaze.

A simple oil for those simply steamy summer nights.
